About MCE

Creative ideas need structures that help them last.

Moutrey Creative Enterprises builds and supports distinct creative ventures across visual art, music, audio, performance, education and community. Each venture has a clear audience and identity; MCE provides the thinking, infrastructure and long-term direction behind them.

Why we exist

Art is not an extra.

Creative practice can become a profession, a community, a product, a public programme, a work of art or a new cultural institution. Too often, strong ideas disappear because the structure around them is too fragile.

MCE exists to build that structure: clear offers, sustainable operating models, useful systems, strong creative direction and routes for people to take part.

The aim is not to make every project look the same. It is to give very different creative ideas the foundations they need to grow on their own terms.

Who is behind it

Founded and run by Robert Moutrey.

MCE grew from Robert's working life across music, audio production, visual art, performance, education and creative entrepreneurship.

Rather than treating those disciplines as unrelated projects, MCE brings them into one operating structure while keeping each public-facing venture focused on the people it serves.

How the organisation works

Three kinds of value reinforce one another.

Commercial value

Products, services and experiences that generate sustainable income and create room for further investment.

Social value

Accessible ways for people to learn, participate, practise and belong through creative activity.

Cultural value

Original work and intellectual property designed to have a life beyond a single transaction or event.

What this means in practice

One organisation. Many ways in.

  • Build focused creative businesses with their own audiences and identities.
  • Create local participation and learning opportunities that can become lasting communities.
  • Develop original artistic work rather than only delivering client briefs.
  • Partner with organisations when shared resources can create something stronger than either side could build alone.
